Weiss Umweltechnik GmbH
Location: Reiskirchen - West Germany Weiss Umweltechnik and its sister companies manufacture environmental simulation (clean room) and air conditioning systems. They are based in Reiskirchen, near Giessen, in Germany. Weiss were a major user of the 3D sheet metal CAD system Proren-SM developed by Raymond Fleming before the creation of Fleming Software in 1988. In 1991 they purchased the first of two Salvagnini S4/P4 machining cells to punch and form sheet metal components. Automatic Machining was selected as the programming system, and Fleming Software worked closely with Weiss over a long period of time to develop the software to meet their requirements. The software originally ran on VAX hardware under the VMS operating system, but recently Weiss have upgraded to the Windows version. The Proren CAD system has now been replaced by Ideas from SDRC, and Fleming Software worked closely with the CAD supplier to integrate the two systems. The system generates both S4 (punching) and P4 (bending) unelaborated programs, and takes account of the many unusual features of these machine tools. The P4 program is derived from bend information passed from the CAD system and automated reference stop and manipulator positioning software built into Automatic Machining. The user loads the geometry passed from the CAD system in DXF format into Automatic Machining and literally generates the S4 and P4 programs in seconds with about 5 mouse clicks. "When we introduced our new product range, by using Automatic Machining one man was able to create the Salvagnini S4 and P4 un-elaborated programs for 2000 parts in 6 months.
